Yesterday, on the way home from a picnic with friends, the kids asked if they could switch their booster seats from the middle row of the mini-van to the back.
Sure.
And you know what? They thought it was the greatest, most fun thing EVER! They giggled and laughed the entire drive home. Just by changing their seats!
I'm stuck in a rut.
I think I need to change my seat!
Most of it has to do with the constant pain I'm in due to disc issues and how much my leg hurts. It's improved enough that I can function during the day. Not very well, but I can get a few things done without the help of pharmaceuticals.
But, well, the house is a mess. (remember, I have the hairiest dog in North America) And I look about and I see a pile of magazines I want to read. And an even bigger pile of books. And the kids are, literally, climbing the walls.
And it's overwhelming me. Because I just can't do much about most of it until my leg/back starts to feel better. (thank goodness, the computer chair is one of the few comfortable chairs in the house!)
"find joy and choose happiness"It's my motto . . . check the header at the top of my blog.
And, sometimes, that takes A LOT of work.
Like now.
So, I need to change my perspective.
My dusty shelves . . . well, they'll just be a little dustier and I shouldn't risk hurting my back just because a little, well, ok A LOT of dust, is driving me crazy!
And my garden! Just the week before I hurt my back, little girl and I planted flowers. And now my poor flowers are surrounded by big evil weeds. I put husband in charge of this one! I couldn't stand seeing my little babies looking so tiny and afraid of the big, spiky weeds!
Then there's my stack of books and magazines. SO much to read. But not being able to sit OR being zonked out by prescription drugs makes it pretty hard to catch up. But just think how much fun it'll be to browse through the pile when I'm feeling better!
Then there's the kids. Bouncing off the walls and getting a lot less attention then they need BUT the red Power Ranger and the blue Power Ranger are busy washing dishes. (yes, they call that FUN!)
And here the Power Rangers are in league with the Care Bears as they fight evil in this fort.
(and notice my wall of layouts! (just, ahem, ignore that the are crooked and dusty!) All 10"x8" size! And later this week, you'll be able to pick up a new 10x8 template!)

So, yes, they are going a bit stir-crazy with me but they are certainly exercising their imaginations! (and their obsession with Power Rangers!)
So, instead of focusing on the mess and the things to need to be done and that I wish I could do and the fights between the kids . . . I'm going to do my best to remember that the things to do will be there later. And that's ok. And that the kids may fight but they play, nicely, MUCH better.
And I promise. Once I feel better. I will NEVER, NEVER take for granted a day or night without pain.
NEVER!!
When you start to lose perspective, what do you do to remind yourself of the joy and happiness in life? Do you have mantra? A prayer? A way to think of things differently? A special flavor of ice cream? A book? A quote? (I'm rooting for the answer to be ice cream!)
Let me know!

I hope your disc prob impoves. I totally understand. I often work with pain and it's not fun.
Your perspective is great and I will certainly choose today. Thanks for the reminder.
Love the colour scheme, Beth! Thanks for a great freebie :) Hope you will get better soon...

I just love your attitude! I am such a believer of the power of positive thinking!! I just know how hard it is to think positive sometimes! I think you are doing a great job!
and thanks for the freebie! I am so happy you haven't completely given up designing, your work is amazing!
I am so sorry that you don't feel comfortable at DSP anymore. I understand though that is hard to go back someplace after you have moved on. I so enjoy your blog, and I am so that you are still designing. Thank goodness for comfortable computer chairs.
The dust will wait - get yourself better.
Thanks
happybeingamom
that is so cute! thank you!!!!
I think I need to "change my seat" too! What a great way to put it.
Hope you back improves soon - my Dad just started Bowen therapy after no improvement with drugs and chiro - he's the ultimate cynic but after his first visit he's a fan - says he doesn't know how it works but the pain has gone!!!! Can't argue with that.
Thanks for the freebie! I can't wait to use it in a layout! I can't believe you are still doing this for us when you are in so much pain. Thank you thank you thank you!
Thanks for the fun kit, Beth!
I hope the pain gets better a little every day, and you get answers so you can come up with a plan to make it a lot better!
Wishing you happy days!
Hi Beth! First, thanks for Smile In My Heart. I love it! Second, I really wish I had something that would always lift my spirits and remind me of the happiness in life. I wish it were as simple as a bowl of Cake Batter ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery (if you've never had it, I highly recommend it!). What usually works for me when I am in the middle of a bad day is just to get away from it for a while, even if it's just to send the kids to their own rooms so I can get just a smidge of quiet time. Usually, I need a good night's sleep and some prayer time in order to really change my perspective. Even that doesn't always work, but I try not to wallow in self-pity for any length of time, or else I know I can just spiral right down. It really is all about attitude! So, I think tomorrow I'll treat myself to some quiet time while the kids are at VBS, and maybe even some ice cream!
Wow great colors thanks!
Hi Beth, That colour scheme makes me smile, what great colours. I hope its creation is a sign that you are feeling happier and in less pain.
Thank you! Your blog post will be advertised on the DigiFree Digital Scrapbooking Freebie search engine today (look for timestamp: 23 Jun [LA 12:38am, NY 02:38am, UK 07:38am, OZ 05:38pm]).
There is no way you can post a freebie and there will not be a big red Granny Alert on the GT ;)
Let the dust be dust (it's dust bunny food! don't starve the poor bunnies!) and feel better soon!
And I know what you mean about taking being free of pain for granted.
For about 6 months last year I was in constant neck pain (due to stress. another story) and could not make it through the day without muscle relaxers and pain killers.
It reminds you how lucky you are on a normal, pain free day, no matter what other stuff happens...
You make me laugh! Thank you for sharing your kits! Thank you more for sharing your life! Your children are SO lucky to have you (and some day they WILL recognize that fact)!
Yes, Bethy, you are greatly appreciated by sooo many! Before I recently pulled everything and left DSP, there seemed to be a contest as to who could post a link to your freebie first in the Granny Thread! :) So not to worry. Just take care of yourself. Thanks for keeping us smiling by your posts on your blog and your wonderful freebies.
Thanks so much!
Im sorry you arnt feeling well, but it sounds like your perspective is right on target, hope you are better soon, your work is gorgeous, thanks for sharing it, Glenda
Playing catch up from being gone for the weekend. And I'll tell ya that reading your blog often is the change in my seat I need. I hope that you're feeling better so much sooner. Thanks for reminding me that my life is pretty darn good, even with dustbunnies (boy do they multiply over the weekends) and loads of laundry. Take care of yourself.
I can totally understand where you're coming from as I live with chronic pain on a constant basis. I hope you begin to feel better quickly! I love your attitude and I will be back to read more of your blogs! You're a great blogger too!
